Radial Insert Ball Bearings and Housing Units
Black SeriesThe new radial insert ball bearing and housing units FAG Black Series from Schaeffler give easy mounting, smooth running and high reliability and thus allow particularly economical bearing arrangements. The dimensions of the FAG housings, made from flake graphite cast iron and with a primer paint coating, conform to JIS B 1559. These single piece cast housings can support moderate to high radial and axial loads. The radial insert ball bearings have basic protection against corrosion due to the Durotect®B coating. The bearing units are particularly suitable for applications with moderate to high loads.

Increased performance at a copper mine
The customer is an international mining company, one of the top three extrac- tion businesses in the world. In addition to iron ore, raw materials for energy generation, gold and diamonds, copper mining is one of the main business arms of the company. Challenge for Schaeffler At the copper mine, a complex conveying system transports enormous quanti- ties of crushed ore. Day after day, the overland conveyor system transports 150 000 tons of ore per hour over a distance of eight kilometres. The customer was planning to increase the throughput (speed) of the system by 50 percent, without making any changes to overall structure, framework, foundation or foot- print.

Sealed Spherical Roller Bearings
With reliable protection against contaminationSpherical roller bearings are double row, self-retaining units comprising solid outer rings with a concave raceway, solid inner rings and barrel rollers with cages. The inner rings have cylindrical or tapered bores. The symmetrical barrel rollers orient themselves freely on the concave outer ring raceway. As a result, shaft flexing and misalignment of the bearing seats are compensated.

FAG Sliding Sleeve Housing replaces Sliding Base Housing
KCGM Pty Ltd. (Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines) has its headquarters in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. The company owns a number of gold mines, including the Fimiston Open Pit (Super Pit) Mine and the Mt. Charlotte Underground Mine. Challenge for Schaeffler: The tube mills are exposed to adverse environmental conditions; high temperatures during the day and low temperatures at night. A local company had equipped the tube mill with a sliding base housing at the floating bearing location. Bearings were failing on an annual basis; this always meant that production was disrupted for several days at a time.
